Thatcher - The Anteater

Thatcher the tamandua anteater is native from Mexico, down into central and south America. They are omnivores that specialize in eating ants and termites, but Thatcher loves avocado and banana.

Did you know?

Tamanduas have a prehensile tail, which means he can use his long tail like an extra arm. This is helpful because Thatcher is quite clumsy, so his tail keeps him from falling. They have a 40cm long (almost as long as a giraffe's tongue), worm-like tongue that can get into small spaces to get ants and termites. The tongue is also sticky to keep his food on his tongue. Tamanduas are the cousin to the sleepy sloth as well as armadillos.
